Spell Writing Tips: These are different components that spell casters and spell writers might use. None of which are necessarily required for successful spell casting but more or less aspects commonly utilized as they often come in simplistic and personalized practice.
Meditation
Meditation is a general term describing the action of taking action into thought and/or improving the mind/body. It's a mental thing. Meditation can mean many things, from complete and utter relaxation to deep thought. Meditation in magic is used for several things including to rest of gain energy, to help spell work with visualization, working on your chakras, and many more.
There are also countless ways to meditate. Tai Chi is common moving form, used for relaxation, and developing balance and grace. The classical upright sitting position, with your legs crossed is useful for almost any kind of meditation.
Visualization
Visualization is using the imagination to stimulate all 5 of the human senses.
Touch
Smell
Taste
Hear
See
All of these are applied when using visualization, it is more than seeing a mental image, it is also including the other 4 I mentioned above. Visualization takes practice and patience, as with anything else.
This method of mental imaging is useful in magic because it stimulates mental activity in the direction of intent when using magic. For instance, when casting a spell, one thing required to make the spell work is belief, you must believe it will work, using visualization to imagine your spell working as you cast helps direct the energy in the way necessary for it to work.
Energy Flow
You'll notice all of these will be fitting together.
Working with Energy Flow is a simple and very basic version of beginning energy manipulation. The term "Energy Flow" explains the ability to feel your internal energy flowing through you. This is necessary for practices like full out energy manipulation, divination, chakra work, astral travel, psionics and pretty much anything else working directly with energy without using a spell or ritual to direct it for you. This practice also comes with directing the energy within you, via will power.
Chakras
There are 2 typically known types of energy a person can use, internal and external energy. Internal energy is energy built up within the body, a person's own energy. This energy is collected and dispersed by specific areas of the body called chakras. Chakras are of countless generators of internal energy. But there are specifically 7, much larger and typically much more active chakras, these main 7 are located down the center of the body. Each chakra can generate specifically different types of energy depending on the location and the condition they are in. Chakras can effect various aspects of a person, including emotions. A healthy chakra system, tends to support a happier, and healthier person. While mucky and clogged chakras tend to make a person feel ill in differing ways. Also, a healthy chakra system is suggested for the energy work, such as divination, and energy manipulation. It is also useful to keep your chakras healthy because it makes casting spells easier on the body and mind. And of course there are other good reasons to keep your chakras in good shape but this was just an short introduction to what they are.

Moon Phases
Moon phases depend on the visible amount of the moon that is reflecting the sun's light. Moon phases are used through out many belief systems for the energy support when it comes to magic practice. To many of those belief systems, differing moon phases correspond to differing aspects of emotion, and intent. Spells and rituals cast during certain moon phases is believe to enhance the effectiveness as the moon will emit various types of energy. Although it can also be considered to simply be of symbolic value with no particular energy emission. It really depends on the belief of whoever you're speaking to.
You have the basic quarters:
Waxing Crescent- on the first half of the new cycle when the lesser portion of the moon is reflecting light and is increasing
Waxing Gibbous- on the first half of the new cycle when the majority of the moon is reflecting light and is increasing
Full Moon- the midpoint of the new cycle when the entire face of the moon is reflecting light
Waning Gibbous- on the second half of the cycle when the majority of the moon is reflecting light and is receding
Waning Crescent- on the second half of the cycle when the lesser portion of the moon is reflecting light and is receding
New Moon- the end of the cycle when the moon is not reflecting any visible light
Basic Herbs
Herbal magic has been used for centuries in healing and practically any other form of magic. Herbs are natural grown plants used as spices and ingredients in spells, potions, baths, etc...
Depending on the plant, herbs can be used and combined for countless purposes. Some herbs can be dangerous if misused, but usually the basics of herbology inquires harmless ingredients.
Many witches prefer to keep their own organic garden in which they grow their own herbs.
Basic Stones
Different stones are considered to hold different magical properties. These properties, when utilized can be used in spells, rituals, divination techniques, held onto as useful charms, along with many other forms of magic.
Stones' properties can be put forth using assorted methods like charging, and blessing.
Circle Casting
Circles are mostly used in rituals, and spells, but can be used in divination and other such fields.
Circles are symbolic pictographs created specifically to serve certain purposes. Most of the time they are created using basic shapes and writing like elemental triangles and runes.
A commonly used circle in witchcraft is the pentagram (maybe the most common).
You'll Notice: Many of these topics will frequently go hand-in-hand and can be used interchangeably.
